7 Days to Die: How to Build An Underground Base
If you are new to the game and want to find a place where you can safely store your items while you go out and explore, you have come to the right place. Or maybe you have been playing for a while and are unhappy with your current base, or you simply want a safe place to spend the night without zombies tearing your house down and bothering you while you craft stone axes and clubs. The method I use to build an underground base has been tested in the early, mid, and late game. The base can also be upgraded based on your preference. For example, if you want castles instead of simple bases, you can do that. If you are just starting the game, it will be a bit harder because you lack proper tools. But don’t worry—stone tools can do the job. It will just take a little longer.
Gather Materials

If you want to build an underground base, the first thing you need to do is gather materials. You will need grass, stone, and wood for construction, so start punching and collecting. Once you have the materials, find a point of interest in the game, such as a town or village. This makes it easier to go out and loot useful items.
Point of Interest

Once you find a point of interest, move a little away from the edge of the town so you don’t attract zombies. Zombies are a real threat early in the game, so it’s best to stay clear of them. Large cities are common zombie spawn points, and you don’t want to build near those areas.
Exact Spot
After choosing the exact spot where you want to build your base, start working. You will need a lot of stone axes, which is where grass, stone, and wood come into play. Once you have several stone axes, craft some wooden ladders. If you run out of wood, chop more trees. You should have at least sixty ladders. After that, put all your skill points into Miner 69er to help you dig faster, as you will need to dig deep. Choose a spot and start digging straight down. This will take some time, but it’s worth it. With an underground base, zombies won’t bother you anymore. Keep digging until you hit bedrock.

Making a Room
Once you reach bedrock, build a room that is at least 6x6. This will give you enough space for your items. After creating the room, place the ladders all the way back up to the surface. When the ladder is complete, you will need a trapdoor so zombies don’t fall straight down into your base.

You might think this place feels small or unsafe, but don’t worry. Zombies won’t see you here. All you have to do is climb down, and you are completely hidden.
Barricades Around the Trap Door

After placing the trapdoor, you can add barricades around it for extra protection. You can also place blocks around the entrance to strengthen it further. Most importantly, make sure to place a door at the entrance and lock it.

You can always upgrade the entrance later, making it bigger and stronger. As the game becomes easier, you can even build a yard or killing zone and take out zombies that try to get in.
Bottom of the Base

At the bottom of your base, make sure to place torches for visibility. In the end, you will have a simple but effective base. Zombies can’t hear or smell you down here, except during the 7-day horde, which works a bit differently. When the 7-day horde spawns, they know where you are, but they usually lose interest after a short time. That’s what makes this base so effective. While you are safely crafting stone axes and clubs underground, zombies will be roaming above and triggering your traps.
